Nurses’ array of abilities includes the nursing health assessment.
A comprehensive and expert nursing assessment allows the nurses to get descriptions of the patient’s symptoms, how they evolved, and a procedure for discovering any other physical results that will assist in the formation of differential diagnoses.

- A comprehensive or full health examination
- An interval or shortened assessment
- A problem-oriented evaluation
- An evaluation of special populations
The fourth type of assessment is the assessment for special populations, including:

- Children
- The elderly
